The binary star system KIC 9832227 is predicted to merge and explode in 2022 according Larry Molnar, an astronomy professor at Calvin College. He said that predicting the star’s explosion was remarkable because “it’s a one-in-a-million chance that you can predict an explosion” and also because “it’s never been done before.” The location of this explosion will be near the constellation of Cygnus: It can be seen with the naked eye and will be as bright as the North Star.
